Falcons Put The Bite on The Mad Dogs
Third time was the charm against these now familiar foes.
Facing off against Minto for the 2nd time in a week marked a considerable achievement for the Hanover Pharmasave LL Falcons. Having suffered 2 defeats at the jaws of the Mad Dogs already this season, Hanover sent Minto to the doghouse with a 3-2 win on Monday, January 19. The last meeting between these teams resulted in a heart-wrenching shoot-out loss to oust the Falcons from tournament play and they hit the ice in Harriston determined to have a different result. Minto was first on the scoreboard, netting one halfway through the first period. Olly Oelschlagel started the second period off right by capping off a good rush, being the first Falcon to beat the Minto goaltender in three games this season. Alley Cat Jensen then banged home a rebound on Slappy Leroux's shot to take Hanover into an early third period lead. Happy Fahrer had a strong effort and extended the lead to 3-1 with an unassisted goal. Minto quickly replied as they bit into the lead and drew themselves within 1 with plenty of time left on the clock. This was as close as the Falcons would allow the home side as Rollie turned aside several good scoring chances and Hanover hung on for the 3-2 final score.
