Hanover wins at home against Wingham 2 team
Submitted By Steve Fitzsimmons on Wednesday, March 04, 2009
It wasn't a thing of beauty by any means, but Atom local league did what they had to do, taking down a red hot Wingham two club 7-3.

Hanover jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first minute of the game, when centre Matthew Howie notched an early goal on a blistering shot.  Assists went to wingers Quintin Graydon and Shay Chittick.  Then late in the first Wingham tied the game at one, when they charged the net and knocked one past goalie Gregory Scales.

Hanover came right back only 10 seconds later, when Howie potted his second of the period to give Hanover a 2-1 edge after one.

In the second frame, Hanover got two unanswered goals from captain Kyler Knoll and Matthew Howie, with assists going to Dylan Freiburger and Ridge Patterson.

In the third, Hanover took a 4-1 lead on a breakaway goal by Howie, unassisted.  Then Wingham came storming back with two goals within 1:02 of each other to make it 4-3.  Hanover dug deep and rallied to win the period and the game with three late goals by Matthew Howie, with assists going to Dylan Freiburger, Dustin Leask, Shay Chittick and Brook Bross.

Gregory Scales played well in net to preserve a 7-3 win.  Defenceman Jordan Mauer had an excellent game for Hanover and will wear the "a" in our next game.
