Atom local league impresses in showdown with Lucknow

The Atom Local League crew once again took on the Lucknow juggernaut, who has not been defeated this season and pressed the play early against them, getting several good scoring chances, but Lucknow netminder Ryan Boyle was up the challenge, turning aside all Hanover shots in the 1st period. Lucknow got on the score sheet at 6:06 of the first period, as they used their speed to their advantage and took the defencemen wide, then put it past Gregory Scales. In the second Hanover put some serious pressure on the Lucknow defence down low and it paid off as centre Matthew Howie continued his torrid scoring pace, notching the tieing goal, with assists going to Quintin Graydon and Shay Chittick. Lucknow came back a few minutes later, converting on the power play to re-establish a one goal lead at 2-1.  The pace of the game was fast and penalties were exchanged at a furious pace, with both teams heading to the box numerous times. In the third period, Lucknow took a 2 goal lead at 3-1 when at 11:34 a Lucknow winger blasted in from the right wing and beat Scales with his shot.  Hanover looked to be back on their heels, but regained their composure and righted the ship when Skyler Bailey refused to stop digging for the loose puck in the Lucknow crease, knocking it behind a helpless Lucknow goaltender to close the gap to 3-2.  Defenceman Dustin Leask and forward Ridge Patterson got the assists. Hanover took control of the late stages of the game, applying some strong pressure on the Lucknow squad, especially in the dying minutes of the game.  Hanover yanked the goalie and put out the extra attacker to try to tie things up, but couldn't find another goal, as they fell 3-2 to a excellent hockey team. It was a gutsy effort as Hanover refused to give up.  Evidence of that was when Skyler Bailey and Matthew Schierz were both injured.  Both of those players refused to miss a shift the team.  That is commitment and dedication and that's what we saw from t
