Atom Local League comes back for close victory over Walkerton
Atom local league started a little slow off the mark, but got their game going in the third period, to rally for a 4-3 come from behind victory over a very game Walkerton squad.
Walkerton came out ready to play in the first period, when they pounced on a slow out of the gate Hanover club and started the scoring off at 6:54, when Chris Cormack got the first of the hat trick he would net on Hanover, to make it 1-0. Minutes later Hanover would rally, as Matthew Howie got a generous bounce off his stick, that trickled into the net to tie the game at 1, with Quintin Graydon and Skyler Bailey drawing the assists.
Walkerton would come storming back in the first period, controlling the play and netting two more goals to lead 3-1 at the end of 1. In the second, Hanover started to find their legs and got some good chances in the Walkerton end, but were unable to score, as the score remained 3-1 at the end of two periods.
In the third period, Hanover got an early goal to give them some momentum, as Matthew Howie notched his second of the game to make it 3-2, with Skyler Bailey and Dustin Leask drawing the assists. Then only a minute later, Hanover tied the game at 3, when Dylan Freiburger scored a highlight reel goal on one of the nicest plays we've seen this season, set up nicely by captain Kyler Knoll and Ridge Patterson, who drew the assists.
Then at 8:56, Hanover took their first lead of the game, as Skyler Bailey notched the game winning goal, banging it behind the Walkerton netminder, with Liam Broad and Brook Bross getting the assists on the play. Hanover finished up strong and came away with the victory.
A great job done by all tonight. Dustin Leask played a great game and will wear the "a" in our final regular season game. Congratulations also to Atom L.L. for clinching 2nd place behind Lucknow in the WOAA play-offs.
