
Tyke 2 Battles Walkerton Blue
On Saturday February 20th the Tyke 2 boys hosted the Walkerton Blue in their first home game in 6 weeks. The boys had easily handled the Walkerton teams this year and were expecting to outplay their opponent again.
Walkerton showed up with a much improved team and came away with a thrilling 4-3 victory in what was likely the most exciting game of the year. Colin Myatt played his first game in goal and made two great breakaway saves early in the game to keep the game scoreless after the first period. Hanover opened the scoring early in the second when Kyle Ermel buried the puck into the top corner after taking a pass from Spencer Whitehead. Myatt made another breakaway save on the next shift to preserve the lead. Walkerton scored in the dying seconds of the 2nd period to tie the game at 1-1 heading into the third. Spencer Teeple opened the third period with a breakway and beat the goalie on the glove side but his shot hit the post and the score remained tied. After a frantic scramble around the Walkerton goal Spencer Whitehead banged in the loose puck to give Hanover a 2-1 lead. Walkerton bounced back with two quick goals to take a 3-2 lead. On the next face-off Kyle Ermel split the Walkerton defence and scored on the breadaway to tie the game 3-3 with 2:41 remaining. Walkerton continued to press hard and regained the lead with 2:00 minutes remaining in the game. In the dying seconds Hanover threw everything it had at the Walkerton goal but could not find the back of the net and Walkerton won 4-3. The fans enjoyed a thrilling and very well played game.
