The Hanover L.L. Falcons met up against the Mount Forest Rams team in a hard-hitting, nail-biting game on February 13th at the Normanby arena. Even though they had played the night before, the team was pumped and ready to hit the ice.
The first period opened with both teams pressing hard. Defensemen Luke Breen and Dawson Gilkinson held off the Mount Forest charges, despite two early Falcon penalties. Hanover had some excellent chances with Christian Vandepoll and Keifer Teeple pressing hard, but were unable to get one in the net, resulting in a scoreless first period. The second period started with Mount Forest ripping off a quick shot towards the Falcons' net which was snatched out of the air by goalie Caden Prues. Defenseman Nathan Oelschlagel and Brody Weber continued to clear pucks from the Hanover zone and managed to help the team kill off yet another Falcons penalty. Finally at 1:10, Cam Rourke took the puck end-to-end and flipped a high shot over the Rams goalie ending the period at 1-0. Early in the third period, Mount Forest ripped a quick shot at the Hanover net and slid the puck through Caden's legs to tie the game. However, Hanover wasn't finished yet. With Adam Knoll, Blake Walters and Olivia Schlosser creating a number of scoring chances, Dale Leroux took the puck end-to-end and shot a high one in the top corner at 5:38 to put the Falcons ahead again. The tension grew when Hanover got another penalty in the last three minutes, but the team rallied and Caden made some amazing saves to keep the Falcons ahead. A desperate Rams team pulled their goalie in the final minute, but the Falcons held on to win the game 2-1. Way to go team!
