The Hanover L.L. Falcons suffered their first defeat of the season in a mid-week matchup with the Walkerton Capitals on February 24th. Despite their best efforts, the Falcons were simply unable to beat the Walkerton goalie.
Hanover opened the scoring at 7:41 of the first period. Brody Weber shot the puck high, which was deflected by the Walkerton goalie to Tyke AP player Ryan Colquohoun who easily flipped the puck into the net. Hanover defenseman Nathan Oelschlagel did an amazing job keeping the puck in the offensive zone and creating scoring chances for the Hanover squad. However, Walkerton made it a tie game at 4:33 with a high shot over netminder Caden Prues. Hanover continued to play their positions and pressed hard, but there were no more goals in the first. The second period started with penalties for both teams as the pace quickened and the play intensified. Olivia Schlosser and Keifer Teeple dug in deep and kept the puck moving, but despite the effort, the score remained tied at one. The third period saw Hanover backing off the play and beginning to move in more of a defensive mode. Luke Breen and Blake Walters kept the puck in the Walkerton zone, creating scoring chances for Dale Leroux, Cam Rourke, Christian Vandepoll and Adam Knoll, but it was not to be. At 3:51, Walkerton picked up the puck and slipped into Hanover's zone ahead of the defense, scoring with a low, hard shot. Hanover pulled Prues in the final minute to play the extra person, but to no avail. Final score: 2-1 for Walkerton. Tough loss everyone-get it back on Saturday!
