Over the weekend the Hanover Canadian Tire Atoms played two games, and came away with two great wins.
On January 23rd they travelled to Kincardine, and were surprised by a team who showed great improvement since their last meeting. Great defence from Kincardine, and goaltending, kept the first period scoreless. Early in the second Hanover scored a nice goal from Daven Rourke, assisted by Devon Sargeant. Kincardine was quick to answer though, with one of their own, tying the game at one. Hanover continued their aggressive play, and managed to break things open a little in the third, scoring three unanswered goals. Goals in the third scored by Kyler Knoll, Andrew Price and Rourke, with assists going to Matthew Oelschlagel, Hunter Sargeant, D.Sargeant and Price. Good defensive play from Maria Scales, Brook Bross and AP Nathan Oelschlagel, and many great saves made by goalie Aaron Price. The following day the Falcons were home in Clifford against a tough Tiverton squad. Hanover opened the scoring fairly early in the first on a goal from Captain Kyler Knoll, assisted by Cole Mitchell and Lucas Dietz. There was lots of back and forth action for the second, with Tiverton outshooting Hanover, but some great goaltending from Shaymus Finlay kept Tiverton scoreless. The third was very exciting with Hanover scoring two quick goals, the first a shot from the point by Defencemen Matthew Oelschlagel, assisted by Devon Sargeant and Andrew Price, and the second from Knoll, assisted by Hunter Sargeant and Dietz. Hanover felt secure in their victory with only minutes left, but were surprised by a Tiverton team that was not ready to give up. Tiverton scored two quick goals in the dying minutes, and pulled their goalie to make for a very exciting finish. The Canadian Tire Atoms managed to pull themselves together and hang on for the 3-2 win. Great hockey played by all. We look forward to our final 3 regular season games, starting with Ripley on Saturday.
