The Hanover Canadian Tire Atoms have started their playoffs, and will be playing a home and away series with Durham, Lucknow, Mount Forest, and Walkerton #1 & #2. Their first game was on Feb 13th against Durham, a team they had not played yet this year.
The Falcons were definately on their game, and won with a score of 5-2. They passed the puck, and truly played as a team, with all 5 goals coming from different players. Goals scored by Cole Mitchell, Daven Rourke, Kyler Knoll, Andrew Price & Devon Sargeant. Assists from Luke Dietz (2), Maria Scales, D.Sargeant (2), Knoll, Mitchell and Rourke. Great defensive play from Brook Bross, Matthew Oelschlagel, Hunter Sargeant, Nathan Oelschlagel & Scales, and great goaltending from Shaymus Finlay all combined for the win. Their second game came on Feb 17 against Mount Forest, a team who has both won and lost to the Falcons during the regular season. It was a great hockey game, with both teams having many chances. Hanover outshot their opponents, but were unable to get the victory, with a final score was 2-1. Hanover's lone goal scored by Knoll, and assisted by Bross. Aaron Price made many great saves, and the entire team should be proud of how well they played. On Feb 21, the Falcons visited Walkerton #2, a team they had tied once but not beaten in the regular season. It was a very exciting hockey game with lots of back and forth action. After 3 periods the score was tied at 2, with both of Hanover's goals coming from Rourke, assists going to Price, H.Sargeant, D.Sargeant and Scales. But the Falcons were determined to win for their head coach Tim Dietz who was sick and unable to make the game. With less than 3 minutes left in OT Captain Kyler Knoll netted a beautiful backhander, assisted by M.Oelschlagel and Dietz. The Falcons are pumped and ready to have a rematch against Walkerton on Saturday. Go Falcons Go!
