The Hanover Canadian Tire Atom LL finished their hockey season with a great showing, and silver finish in the Mildmay Atom Tournament on March 20th.
Hanover faced Durham in the first game, winning 3-1, and putting them on the A side. Goals scored by Daven Rouke (2) and Kyler Knoll, assists to Devon Sargeant and Andrew Price, with great goaltending from Shaymus Finlay. The second game was against the home town Mildmay Monarchs, who Hanover defeated 8-0, securing them a spot in the Championship game. Goals scored by Rourke (3), D. Sargeant (2), Knoll (2) and Lucas Dietz, with assists going to Rourke (2), Cole Mitchell (2), Hunter Sargeant, Knoll & D.Sargeant. Excellent defensive play from Brook Bross, Maria Scales, Matthew Oelschlagel and Nathan Oelschlagel and H. Sargeant helped earn a shutout for goalie Aaron Price. The final game was against Barrie, and was one of the most exciting games of the year for the Falcons. It was amazing to see the progress each player has made this year, and to see them play so good together as a team. Hanover suffered a few injuries during the game, and Barrie managed to squeak out a win with a final score of 3-2. Great game by all! Hanover goals scored by Rouke & Dietz, with assists to Price & Mitchell. Hanover was happy with their performance, and the silver win. Each player received individual engraved medals, and the Atoms received a banner to hang in our new arena! Player of the game awards were handed out after each game, and were given to Rourke, Bross, Finlay and Price. These Atom Falcons have had an amazing year, and have matched up well against the teams in their division, having beat every team at least once. Way to go Falcons! Special thanks to the coaching staff who have done an amazing job with these kids, and have kept a fun, positive atmosphere all year; which shows on the ice, in the changeroom, and on the kids faces.
