The Hanover Atom rep squad fought their way to a solid 2-2 tie vs. a tough TCDMHA squad on Saturday.
In a solid contest, the Falcons were determined to defeat the previously tied TCDMHA Rebels. The first period saw the Falcons find their comfort zone of being short handed, just 1:13 into the game.... After taking two more first period penalties, Hanover was rightfully down by 1.
During the second frame, Hanover was extremely solid, stayed away from the sin bin, all but twice, and dominated the play. Finishing the second still down by one, the Falcons had the momentum, and were confident that a few more shifts would see the score change.
With the momentum high, and the kids eager, Hanover tied the game at 1, when Garrett Logie converted on a back hand shot with the assist going to the squad's new D, Brenden Clayton.
Hanover maintained possession of the puck, and controlled the third frame, but on a tough bounce after a sharp pinch, the TCDMHA center was left with a break away, which was easily handled by Gregory Scales, and although Clayton gave strong chase and meddled well, the break away player managed to bat his rebound out of the air to make it 2-1 Rebels.
As time slowly dissappeared, the Falcons continued to apply immense pressure, out shooting their opponent 37-17, and finally, with just 59 seconds left in the game, Nathan Russwurm fired a wrist shot from the point on a clearing attempt of the Rebels, which found space behind the already shell shocked netminder. Assists went to Bonesy and Dylan Freiburger.
Hanover 2, TCDMHA 2. The Falcons played a very strong game, and although the scoreboard showed a tie, Hanover was by far the better team. Good job, boys.
