Two weekend games, and two wins, allowed the Schaus Masonry Atom Rep Team to continue their 8 game undefeated streak!
They had fallen to a tie on Monday evening when Arran Elderslie visited, but more than redeemed themselves this past weekend.
On Saturday, the Atoms were host to the sizeable Teeswater Otters, in what resulted in quite a one sided match. From the first shift, right through to the last, the Falcons dominated the Otters, and finished with a 9-1 victory.
Goals were earned by Garrett Logie (3), Jacob Mattingly (3), Nathan Russwurm (2), and Dylan Freiburger. Assists were credited to Austin Frook, Logie, Travis Campbell (2), Russwurm, Brenden Clayton, and Freiburger (2).
Solid effort by goaltender Kyle Roulston.
The Falcons maintained solid pressure and played very well as a team.
Sunday's game was quite a different match up, when the Falcons hosted the League Leading BCH Icedogs. In their past meeting, Hanover defeated BCH 5-3, in Bayfield, and were looking to create the same result on home ice.
Hard skating, significant pressure, and challenges in every zone of the rink resulted in two very competitive teams finding their way to the penalty box a number of times. After applying early pressure, Hanover found themselves shorthanded less than two minutes into the game. Still willing and eager, the Falcons continued to apply pressure - shorthanded - when at 7:07, Garrett Logie put the squad ahead by one.
BCH attempted to return the favour, and on a nice rush, their captain beat our skaters, and had a smile on his face as he fired his wrist shot at the top corner. Goaltender, Gregory Scales made a difficult snag look easy, and dropped the puck at the foot of the BCH player. Scales now had the smile.
The period continued at its high level of intensity, which carried through to the second frame, when the Falcons found themselves dissorganized on the draw, and down by a man, which allowed the Ice Dogs to gain position into the danger zone where they were barely able to put one behind Scales.
The third period produced much more of the same, with both teams visiting the sin bin multiple times. Emotions were high in the stands; on the benches; in the timekeeper's box... Emotions hit the highest level of the game, when AP Kyler Knoll roofed the puck on a tremendous, short handed effort and quality contribution by Austin Frook. With only 1:11 remaining in the game, BCH had no other option but to pull their goaltender, creating a 6 on 4, but it was not enough to change the outcome of this one.
The two rivals will not meet again for the remainder of the regular season.
Hanover is Host to Mildmay on Sunday in Ayton at 11:00am.
