Playing host to the Mildmay Monarchs, the Schaus Masonry Atom Reps saw their 8 game undefeated streak come to an abrupt end. 8 games ago, Mildmay delivered Hanover a loss, and delivered the same this weekend.
The Falcons came into the game with over confidence, and failed to deliver from the start. An array of soft passes, missed opportunities, and the failure to skate with desire or intensity earned the team a well deserved L.
Poor positioning, limited shots, and a general absence from the game was rarely outshone by a few glimmers of hope on a few decent attempts. Mildmay out skated, out played and out performed the Hanover squad, as confused coaches tried to revitalize the bench. For the first time this season, the Hanover squad had fewer penalties than their opponents, which is one positive aspect of the game - not playing shorthanded at all! Three home penalties, but all were cooincidental.
As the team watched the time dissappear, the efforts did not increase, until the coaching staff emptied the net, in hopes of breaking the Mildmay shutout. With the faceoff deep in the Monarchs zone, on the powerplay, and now with the net empty, the Falcons buried one in just 8 seconds. Goal scored by Dylan Freiburger, assisted by Travis Campbell and Kyler Knoll.
With just 42 seconds left, Hanover poured on the pressure, finally earning multiple shots, and narrowly missing another marker. Had the team played with such intensity from the start, Mildmay would have begged for mercy.
A good effort by goaltender Kyle Roulston.
Nonetheless, a poor effort resulted as it should have.
The Falcons travel to Seaforth this coming weekend for the Bill Carnochan Memorial Tournament.
