Hanover's Schaus Masonary Falcons Pick Up Two More Points
On Wednesday December 23rd Hanover's Atom Rep squad took to the ice in Seaforth for their first matchup of the season.
While both teams appeared to be a little off of their game (there must have been bigger things on their minds, perhaps a jolly fellow in red), your hometown boys came away the victors.
At 7:35 in the first period Hanover jumped on to the scoreboard with a nice midnet goal from team captain Garrett Logie. The Falcons setup man was Alternate captain Nathan Russwurm.
Into the second period with just five minutes left, again Nathan Russwurm found the goaltender, leaving a rebound opportunity for Jacob Mattingly who was quick to react and found the back of the net with a backhand shot, putting Hanover up 2-0.
With approximately a minute and a half left to play in the game, Hanover found themselves down two players, forcing a big powerplay opportunity for our opponents. That opportunity was only magnified when Seaforth pulled their goalie making it six on three. The final moments of the game where played in Hanover's end, the result being a forfiet of a shutout for netminder Kyle Roulston, a shutout that was well deserved. Seaforth scored with just under five seconds left on the clock.
In those final moments, Hanover heavied up for the centre face off and captialized on the empty net with goal number three, scored from the neutral zone with a shot from Alternate captain Dylan Freiburger with only 2 seconds left on the clock. To our disbelief the referee after calling the third goal decided to take it away stating the net was off ( no players had been near the net for over one and a half minutes)
The Schaus Masonary Atom Rep team now sits at eight wins, three ties and four losses on the season. This lively bunch travel to Lions Head on Wednesday December 30th to take on a very strong Bruce Penninusala team.
