Entertaining End to End Action as Falcons Start Playoffs
Submitted By Dan Bailey on Sunday, January 17, 2010
The Schaus Masonry Atom rep Falcons were host to the Mount Forest Rams on Saturday, for their opening round of the OMHA playoffs.  The Falcons and the Rams hadn't met all season long, and were anticipating a fantastic match up.

Game one proved not to dissapoint, as the Rams and Falcons battled for pucks, for real estate, and for the victory.  In a game of mistakes, there were very few made by either squad, resulting in frame one ending at a 0-0 tie.  Period two saw much of the same, and also ended scoreless.  Period three netted nothing, and on the first playoff game of the year, both squads had to try to settle this one in four.

The ten minute overtime period was a fine display of the game, but eventually started to slow down.  The Rams had a full line up of 12 skaters, to Hanover's 10, and with team captain, Garrett Logie feeling under the weather and just seeing a handful of shifts, the Falcons were wearing.  At 5:37 in the fourth frame, the Rams were able to hammer away at a covered puck, until it crossed the line, ending the game with the sudden victory.

The defensive squad of Dylan Campbell, Tyler Campbell, Nathan Russwurm and Jacob Mattingly were nothing short of brilliant.  Gregory Scales stood on his head the entire game.  Offensively, the Falcons were strong, but not quite strong enough, as we were forced to head into Mt. Forest, down by a game.

Game two in Mount Forest proved to be another game the Falcons faced while dealing with illness.  3 forwards and 1 defenceman were ill, and the forceful Rams took advantage of the Falcons' scrambled play, taking the 3-1 win, and forcing Hanover to win 3 straight, in order to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Hanover travels to Mount Forest on Sunday to deliver the Rams loss #1, and then will defeat them the following weekend in back to back matches.
