Facing elimination, the Schaus Masonry Hanover Atom Reps brought their game to Mount Forest, and took home the win in a very entertaining 3rd game vs. the Rams.
At the drop of the puck, Hanover played an eager, fast, and aggressive game. Their equally matched opponents, the Mt. Forest Rams, delivered their best as well.
Period one saw a ton of hard fought hockey, and more than a handful of quality saves at both ends of the rink. With just 2:24 left in the first, Skyler Bailey beat the Rams goalie on a mid net, blocker side wrist shot. Assists earned by Dylan Freiburger, and Brenden Clayton.
Period two was filled with battles, shots, powerplays and energy, but neither team could net one.
Period three saw the Rams tie it up, immediately following the expiration of a Falcons penalty...1-1. Three and a half minutes later, though, Bailey fired at the net, leaving a nice rebound for Garrett Logie, who made no mistake, and found the top of the net, above a sprawling Mt. Forest goalie. The Falcons now had the much needed lead, but with plenty of time remaining....
Without losing sight, Hanover rammed the Rams with many more opportunities, shots and relentless backchecking. On the Rams best opportunity of the frame, a Mount Forest player charged the net, resulting in contact with goalie Kyle Roulston, and retaliation penalties taken by the Falcons, leaving the squad down by two players, and only 4 minutes left in the game. A time out was called by Hanover, allowing the team to remain calm, focussed, and to make our objective clear.
Mt. Forest applied immense pressure, but the three man Hanover squad was nothing short of incredible. They blocked shots, protected the slot, cycled the puck, and killed off the entire 2 man advantage. In the frenzy, the Rams earned themselves a penalty, and then shortly thereafter, another...
As Mt. Forest emptied the net, Hanover remained focussed on protecting their lead, and not opening up for defensive breakdowns, ending the game at 2-1.
Hanover's second win to tie the series comes Saturday, in Harriston, where Hanover hosts the Rams for game 4 of 5. The series championship game will be Sunday at 1pm in Mt. Forest.
