Peewee Local League dominates in an impressive performance
The Canadian Tire Peewee Local League crew were looking to finish the regular season right on the .500 mark at 10-10 and were able to accomplish that with a very impressive 10-0 win over the Wingham Ironmen in Wingham today.
The Falcons saw 9 different players register points in the game and all players contributed in the victory. Missing two regulars, Quinton Steward and Alex Pendergast, Hanover pulled together as a team and took control of the game from the opening face-off, starting the scoring parade at the 9:03 mark of the first, when Colin Spielmacher went in alone for an un-assisted marker. Then 3 minutes later, Spielmacher was at it again, this time on a nice passing play from linemates Kody Hammell and Brook Bross who got the assists, with Spielmacher ripping it behind a helpless Wingham goalie to make it 2-0 after 1 period.
Then in the second, Hanover poured it on, as Brook Bross fired a shot from the corner, that deflected behind the goalie to make it 3-0, with Kody Hammell drawing the assist. Only 21 seconds later, Quintin Graydon found himself in front and sent a missile into the net to make it 4-0, with linemates Dustin Leask and Shay Chittick picking up the assists. Two minute later Hanover was at it again, with Kody Hammell stuffing the puck behind the Wingham goalie, with Bross and Spielmacher picking up the assists.
Later in the frame, Colin Spielmacher finished off the hat trick, receiving a great pass from Kody Hammell and rifling it past a beleagured Wingham goalie to take the score to 6-0. Dustin Leask then got into the act, as he scored to make it 7-0, with Shay Chittick and Quintin Graydon picking up assists.
Then a really nice moment happened at the 6:08 mark of the period, when Christopher Hall fired a hard shot into the back of the net, registering his first ever goal to make it 8-0, with Spielmacher picking up the assist.
The third period brought additional goals, at the 8:16 mark, when Kody Hammell notched his 2nd goal and 5th point of the game, getting a nice pass from Matt Schierz, who drew the assist. Then at the 4:50 mark Chase Blackburn went end to end and beat the goalie on a Drew Doughty type rush to round out the scoring in a 10-0 win. Ben Klages wasn't too busy, with only about 7 shots on goal, but made every save to register the shut-out.
Chase Blackburn was selected for the "A" for his efforts today in a very solid defensive performance for our club. We look forward to beginning our play-off action in the near future, but are going in on a very positive note.
