Peewee L.L. Rebounds with strong win against Walkerton
After being beaten 10-2 in their last game against Minto, the Canadian Tire Hanover Falcons rebounded with a very solid 9-0 victory over the Walkerton Capitals tonight.
Hanover controlled the game from the outset, with Alex Pendergast setting the tone early in the period, with a couple solid hits and then with a laser beam of a shot from just inside the blueline, one that went into the top corner of the net and gave Hanover a 1-0 lead. Then 3 minutes later, Quintin Graydon fired a shot off of a Walkerton defender that found the back of the net to make it 2-0, with Quinton Steward drawing an assist.
Into the second period, Hanover poured it on and made it 3-0, when Brook Bross converted a rebound in front of the net, with Dustin Leask drawing the assist. Hanover then took a 4-0 lead when Chase Blackburn finished off a nice rush from his own blueline and converted, with Shay Chittick picking up an assist.
Colin Spielmacher then made it 5-0, when he launched a missile, that went over the shoulder of the Walkerton netminder. Then Walkerton did a peculiar thing, as they pulled their goalie with a minute left in the second period and trailing 5-0, but could not score.
In the third Hanover continued their offensive explosion, as Brook Bross got one of the nicest passes of the season, as Dustin Leask was on his belly at the side of the goal and somehow got the puck out to Bross from that position, with Bross finishing it off for his second of the game.
Then Alex Pendergast teed up another blast from the point that made it 7-0, his second of the game. With only 3:47 left in the hockey game, Hanover made it 8-0, when Matt Howie found Shay Chittick in front and he knocked it home. Then with 32 seconds left, Shay Chittick got his second of the game, when Colin Spielmacher found him with a nice pass for an empty net goal to round out the scoring, with Alex Pendergast also receiving an assist.
Kody Hammell made six saves to record the shutout and overall it was a nice effort tonight to shake off a really tough defeat against Minto. Both Brook Bross and Alex Pendergast received an "A" for our next game, as Assistant Captain Matt Howie will be on holidays for a few games. We look forward to a busy schedule of hockey this weekend and upcoming.
