Hanover ends play-off run with victory over Teeswater
Submitted By Steve Fitzsimmons on Sunday, March 14, 2010
The Canadian Tire Hanover Falcons ended their season today with a solid 8-3 victory over the Teeswater Peewees.  Hanover got the first goal of the game only 17 seconds in, when Brook Bross fired a puck into the top corner over the Teeswater netminder, with his cousin Kody Hammell and Dustin Leask getting the assist.

Throughout the rest of the first period, play was much closer than anyone would have expected, given Hanover had defeated Teeswater three times this season in easy fashion, but it remained 1-0 after one period.  Then Teeswater put a scare into Hanover team with two early goals in the second period to give themselves a 2-1 lead, their only lead against Hanover this season.

Hanover started to take control of the game at 5:04 of the second, when Kody Hammell got the first of 4 consecutive goals he would score in the second period, which took the score all the way to 5-2 Hanover, with Colin Spielmacher assisting on all four goals, while Chase Blackburn, Matt Howie and Quintin Graydon each drew one.

Then in the third period, Hanover made it 6-2 when Matt Howie finished off a nice individual rush for an unassisted tally.  Only a minute later, it was Colin Spielmacher getting his first of the game, with Chase Blackburn drawing the assist.  Hanover made it 8-2, when Chase Blackburn fired a puck past the goalie, with Shay Chittick and Matt Schierz assisting on the play.

Teeswater would get another goal in the final minute, but it was far too little too late, as Hanover finished off their play-off season with a 7-2-1 record.

It was a fun season for the team and I would personally like to thank both Brad Leask and Ryan Cabral for helping me coach our team this year.  I'd also like to thank Kevin Chittick for his dedication and help with being our trainer.  It was much appreciated.  I'd also like to thank Mike Schierz, my Manager for the last two seasons, who looks after so much of the organizational side of the team.  It was great to work with you as always.  A special thanks to our Goaltending Coach Kevin Klages for all of his work.  The kids really benefitted from it.

Finally, last but not least, I want to thank our kids for giving it everything they had this season and making it so much fun for us to watch them.   It was a pleasure for me to coach you this season and I wish you all the best in the future.
