Hanover Pee Wee reps travelled to Goderich to take part in the 61st year of the Lions Young Canada Week tournament, and what a week it was. Ten teams would playoff for what would be an outstanding week of hockey. Hanovers first matchup with North Middlesex on Wednesday morning would end in a tie of 2-2. their second game of the day would see them play Mt Brydges. Hanover was a little more aggressive and would go ahead early to take the win 3-0. Hanover would return on Thursday to meet Twin Centres. A team that had gone undefeated until this point in the tournament. Hanover came out of the gates with all guns firing and would score just 2 minutes into the game. This gave them the momentum they needed and they would go on to defeat Twin Centres 4-2. A definate tournament upset. After some anxious waiting and number crunching it was declared that Hanover would finish 3rd in the tournament and would continue on to the semis. They would meet up with Twin Centres again and would need a win in order to advance to the Championship. Hanover held their own but just didn t have enough left in the tank to do the deed , they would lose 3-1 and would have to settle for the Consolation Final on Saturday.
Hanover Pee Wee s would return one last time to Goderich for the final game. This match up would put them up against the 4th seed team Mt Brydges. Excitement, jitters, and a few cases of nerves, and that was just the coaching bench, would dissappear when Hanover scored two minutes into the game. Hanover had something to prove and they were going to get it done early. The Pee Wee Falcons would go on to beat Mt Brydges with an outstanding win of 7-1. The coaching staff could not have been prouder by the effort that their team put forth all week. This is such a prestigious tournament, and to play in it is such an honour but to have an outcome like Hanover did ,for a coach the feeling is priceless.
A special thank you to all the parents for their support during this tournament. It is not always easy to put a squad together over March Break but our parents are committed. Hats off to you all !!!!!!
