Playing very short-handed due to injuries, and sickness the Canadian Tire Falcons midget rep team ship wrecked the Goderich Sailors.
Backed by the solid goaltending of Mitch Campbell and the never say we're tired attitude of the other 11 skaters the canadian Tire midget rep team methodically sunk the Goderich Sailors with a convincing 6 - 1 thrashing. With a number of key players out of the line - up due to injuries, the flu, and 1 suspension the remaining players played with their hearts on their sleeves and proved that conditioning can certainly help win hockey games.
Team captain Brandon Galloway opened the scoring just 13 seconds into the game with some nifty passing from Scott Fidler and Reed Schuknecht. Tyler Goetz added his first of 2 goals on the night at the 4:49 mark of the first period with the assist going to Reed Schuknecht. Tyler Murdock and Aaron Cousins assisted on Kyles second goal coming early in the second period. Goderich replied with their only score on a tipped shot from Joe Whitely.
The second period was dominated by the Falcons opening up a 4-1 lead with goals from Goetz and Murdock. the second period also brought out some poor behaviour and sportsmanship by a Goderich player but the Falcons remained unfazed and focused on achieving the teams first league win of the season. The third period saw goals scored by John Oliviera and Sean Costie both tallying for the first time this season.
By the end of the third period the boys were getting very tired with the shifts getting shorter and shorter, but their perseverved and posted a very convincing victory over the previously unbeaten Sailors.
Up next for the Canadian Tire Midgets is a trip to Kincardine for the Archie Macmillan memorial tournament with games against Listowel (Sat at noon), Petrolia (Sat at 7:30), and St. Mary's (Sun at 1:30) and the good news is most if not all injured players will be back in action.
Good luck boys
