FALCONS START PLAYOFFS
Submitted By Dan Teeple on Tue 01 24, 12
The Schaus Masonry Atom Rep. team opened up the playoff season travelling to Clinton on Jan. 21 to take on the BCH Icedogs.
The Falcons met BCH twice in the regular season and came away with a close 4-2 loss and a tied game in which no team scored a goal. This series should be exciting as both teams match up evenly with a good goalie, strong defence and some hard working forwards.
A good defensive battle to start the game changed when BCH opened the scoring mid-way through the first period to take the lead. The Falcons kept digging and and with alot of hard work, Kyle Hamel was able to put one past the goalie and tie up the game.
The forward line of Josh Lorenz, Nate Johnston and Hamel played great and created many scoring chances throughout the game. Lorenz was able to move into the high slot and blast one into the top corner past the Icedogs netminder with a hard wrist shot. Johnston picked up an assist on the goal.
Ryan Colquhoun, Keifer Teeple and Connor Maxwell played some great two way hockey as they were skating hard and creating some chances of their own. Time had expired in the second period just before Colquhoun put home a rebound on a good shot by Teeple from the hash marks.
Brody Weber, Tyler Freiburger and Braydon McDiarmid were busy on defence and played solid games turning away the chances from the opposition. They did a great job breaking up plays and clearing the puck ahead to the forwards.
Caden Prues turned away many shots as he kept his team in the game with some spectacular saves.
The Falcons took a one goal lead with five minutes to go in the game when Josh Lorenz scored his second goal of the game.
BCH pressed hard and managed to tie the game, and then score another, to take the lead and win the the first game of the series by a 4-3 score.
The team will be fired up and ready to go when they host BCH this Saturday at the P&H Center for game 2.
